It's that time of year again--when music nerds cobble together end-of-the-year "best of" lists. Top albums, songs, movies, memes; you name it, and someone is out there painstakingly compiling a ranked list of the best of the year's best.
The editors over at Rolling Stone magazine are among some of the nerdiest of music nerds, so we tend to give their year-end lists more respect and gravity than most. Today, the stalwart periodical has released their lists for 2020. Looking over their lineup for Best Reissues for the past 12 months, and it's packed front to back with some seriously great stuff.
Leading the charge is the legend of the Canyon herself, Joni Mitchell, and the glorious Joni Mitchell Archives --Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) collection. Tom Petty's Wildflowers and All the Rest, a loving look back at the 1994 Rick-Rubin produced masterpieces. Prince's 1987 tour de force, Sign O' the Times, and the look back at Roberta Flack's stunning 1969 debut, First Take, were also among the lauded releases. See the full rundown here.
